What is blended learning?

… and how does edtech like Tassomai support it?

The coming year, as we all know, will be very tough and unpredictable. School leaders are preparing for an Autumn term that will be different to anything seen before, introducing social distancing, catch-up programmes and blended learning strategies.

As the provider of an online learning platform used by tens of thousands of students both in school and at home, we have been effectively enabling blended learning for several years.  Blended learning is defined as an approach to education that combines online educational materials and opportunities for interaction online with traditional place-based classroom methods.

We believe that Tassomai is the best option for schools to support their blended learning strategies next term.

Here’s what we are doing to play our part in keeping academic standards high, even if students cannot see as much of their teachers as we would all wish.

  • Tassomai has always been a service that meant teachers could set an instant homework that tailored to each pupil and, by self-marking and adaptation, could give you the data you need to plan to your students’ needs.

  • From next September, we are pleased to be able to expand our service to include GCSE English literature and GCSE maths content in addition to our science content. This comes at no additional cost to schools. We will also continue to provide KS3 content in English, maths and science.

  • Schools will have access to an enhanced set of usage dashboards which will instantly tell you how students are getting on with their daily practice, as well as providing leaderboards and weekly prize-draws.

  • Our attainment data (the famous Tassomai dots) have been shown through research to be powerfully accurate predictors of student achievement in assessments; this will now be available across all three subjects to support better intervention planning. Many schools have used this data to help with their rankings for centre-assessed grades. Should it come to that again, our dots will be there to help you.

  • Keeping families in the loop will be essential, so we're excited to announce that from next year, all schools will be able to instantly set up weekly parent reports; through Tassomai, parents will know if their children are keeping their work up in line with your expectations.

  • Finally, our new diagnosis tool, the Tree, will be live in the app allowing students, parents or teachers to see exactly where more work is needed and where they can give a little extra help. Not only will this aid metacognition and self-directed learning in the best PiXL D-T-T model, it will be a tremendous motivator for students studying independently to witness their knowledge and understanding grow as they do their daily Tassomai homework.
