In our opinion, every member of staff should run a Group Quiz at least once per week for each class they teach, but many schools are using them for the start of every lesson - we love to hear it.
A NEGATIVE amount of time. Think how long it takes you to come up with each lesson starter (especially how long it would take if you wanted to base it on the mistakes your students have been making in their homework). You get all of that time back. Every. Single. Lesson. (Short answer - it takes about 10 seconds).
Absolutely not. If a student is absent, or if you want to work with a small group of students, you can specify that before you launch the quiz. The beauty of it is that the quiz is only composed based on the work done by the students you include, so this is a super-powerful group intervention/tuition tool.
Yes - you can launch a quiz and select “no students - teacher experiment” and you can view the questions and click through without affecting their data. However, since Group Quiz is built on the fly and bases itself not only on your students’ answers but on the entire national cohort, we cannot guarantee that the quiz you preview on Monday will come up exactly the same on Tuesday.
We like using the dots grid: you can see if there’s a topic with more red or orange dots (or even drill down to a sub-topic); anywhere you see that blue “play” button, you can start a group quiz. Alternatively, the Group Quiz menu on the dashboard suggests a topic for your class based on their recent work.
Far from it - each time you do a group quiz, you are surfacing misconceptions to discuss in class based on the mistakes some of your students have made, and now the whole class will see those same questions brought into their ongoing homework practice. So you’ve done two things: you’ve exposed several students to content they’d not yet unlocked, and you’ve shortened that feedback-to-mastery loop that would otherwise have taken students much longer to unlock.
