"If it’s good enough for my students, it’s good enough for my child"

The Tassomai team recently spoke to Claire Crichton-Allen, a former teacher and head of department who now uses Tassomai to homeschool her own daughter, Mabel…

When we made the decision to homeschool our youngest child, I looked up to see whether there was a way of having a private subscription to Tassomai as it’d made such an impact when I had introduced it at my school.

Same but different

It’s a different approach when using it as a parent and I’m much more hands off than I was when I used it in my previous school. It’s her tool, not mine. She uses it to track what she’s up to and can take her independent learning into her own hands. She’s really seeing the impact of it, saying things like ‘Oh, I’ve seen that on Tassomai’.

Mabel is self managing it, which shows her the impact it has on her learning and improves her independent learning skills. She’s now built the habit and it’s just part of her day. She completes her Tassomai Daily Goals as part of her morning routine, often  when she’s having her breakfast!

As a parent…

The Parent Dashboard gives me access to all the information on the parent side and the new Leapfrog Sessions offer extra reporting for parents. I don’t have to be as involved or concerned because I have complete confidence in the product and know the impact it can have. If she gets it done, we know her grades will be that bit more secure.

A sapling being planted by two hands

The access to the back end of the platform is so insightful. As a parent you so often don’t have access to real data. Especially with homeschooling, you don’t get as many statistics on progression and how they are doing.

I’m sure this is an impact of being an ex-teacher, but I love to see how she is developing and improving. The Tree and the weekly progress reports are great ways for me to get those snapshots of understanding.

No standing still

Having worked with other education technology companies, I know that Tassomai is not standing still. There’s so much going on all the time and things have changed for the better. Coming back to it as a parent has been a good surprise and I’m really impressed with the new additions.

Using the AI tutor, Mai, is also brilliant. We like the immediate feedback and instant gratification of seeing that what you’re doing actually has meaning, and your knowledge instantly improves. It’s a very quick, causal feedback loop and more of a coaching experience. Mabel finds it requires an extra level of reciprocal effort and really helps with her learning.

Getting the most out of Tassomai

If I was speaking to new to Tassomai parents I would say, go on the journey together, I think you both need to buy in for it to have an impact. Maybe start by sitting together and doing it so you can get an understanding of how it works and the benefits it offers. A little each day makes a massive difference!
