How Tassomai changed my family’s approach to learning

The Tassomai team recently caught up with Josi whose son uses Tassomai through a private subscription to help him with his school work instead of a private tutor. We asked her about how they use the platform and why it has been particularly helpful for their family…

When did you first start using Tassomai?

I first discovered Tassomai when I was looking for a platform to help my daughter with her GCSE science and saw it recommended on Mumsnet. She only used Tassomai for 3 months in the lead up to her exams but I was really impressed with how it worked so made sure to sign my son, Victor, up when he started year 9 and he now uses it 7 days a week!

Victor is now in year 11 and has been using Tassomai consistently for 2 years throughout KS4. Like many boys his age, he can be a little lazy at times but Tassomai has been great for giving him a focus and a direction for his studying. He uses Tassomai for English, maths, science and history and says that the content always correlates directly with his exam boards and what he is learning at school.

“It’s great to be able to keep up with his progress on the dashboard and see the colours of his Tassomai Tree changing.”

How has your son incorporated Tassomai into his routine?

I am now confident that Victor is keeping up with his studies because he completes his Tassomai every morning when he first wakes up - usually while he’s still in bed

He’s had a tough time at school since the Pandemic, so it is comforting to know that he has something to keep him on the right track with his education. He tries to do a lot of work at home to fill in any gaps that he feels he’s missing and I encourage him to go back over his mistakes and problem areas on his Tassomai. It’s great to be able to keep up with his progress on the dashboard and see the colours of his Tassomai Tree changing.

How has Tassomai helped with your son’s learning?

Victor prefers to use online study tools – we have all the textbooks and revision guides stacked up around the house but he just likes using things that he can access on his phone or computer, especially as it’s so easy to fit into his routine.

I think it has been particularly helpful with his history and English courses. There are so many facts to remember for history and having them tested on daily helps him to keep that knowledge ticking over. It’s also brilliant for literature too and he seems to be doing much better in his English studies!

You’ve been trialling Mai, Tassomai’s AI tutor. How has your son found the addition of Mai to the platform?

I think one of the main things for teenage boys is to have something right in front of them that is ready and easy to use. This has definitely been the case with Mai and I know that Victor has found Mai very helpful because it is so easily accessible.

Class sizes are so big these days, but having Mai is like having an extra teacher available to help him when he’s at home if he notices any gaps in his knowledge.

Victor said, “I am starting to learn things on Tassomai that I haven’t covered in class yet, so I’m getting a taster of it before the teacher talks about it and this is great because then I always feel prepared. If I don’t know something, I will see what the right answer is and then I know that question will come up again soon because I got it wrong but I’ll have learnt from my mistake.

“This is where Mai comes in because I can ask more questions when I don’t understand part of the quiz and learn more about the topic. You just have to click on it and ask and it explains – it’s really easy. It has really helped me progress over the last few weeks.”

How would you describe Tassomai in 3 words?

Habit-forming, helpful, easily accessed.

Victor is doing very well at school – he enjoys science and wants to study chemistry and physics for A-level. He has his mock exams coming up in a few weeks and we wish him all the best! Hopefully we will be able to check back in with him to see how he gets on throughout the year.
