Managing multiple subjects - tips for private subscribers

Tassomai customers are able to access as many subjects as they want, all for the cost of a single course subscription. As the platform has grown to include multiple subjects, we’re often asked by parents “how many subjects should my child use Tassomai for?”. Tassomai’s founder Murray Morrison answers this question below…

“All you can eat”

When you find yourself at a buffet, it’s all too easy to grab a bit of everything… but we all know the regret of the overfilled plate, and the waste that comes with it. It’s the same with Tassomai - if you take on too many courses at once, it’s likely your child won’t get the most out of the program.

Each subject will have its own Daily Goal (a set amount of practice). Cognitive science tells us that there’s great benefit to interleaving practice - switching between topics regularly - and the Tassomai system supports that. But we also know that there is a complex ‘goldilocks zone’ - the amount of work each day, and the level of challenge that is ‘just right’ for perfect practice.

If you set up two or three subjects, you will find that your child is in that goldilocks zone - the different topics will interleave, but the level of work will be just right to optimise learning. Add too many at once, however, and the work demanded will likely be too much - the risk being that the learning loses focus and is not sustainable.

Start Small

What we recommend is to start with just a few (two or three) subjects: perhaps a blend of one or two things your child is struggling with alongside something they’re more confident in. The balance will be beneficial and you will see some contrast in the way the program operates for them.

It’s far easier, then, to swap things in and out, or add slightly to the workload once a routine has been established than it is to re-energise a student who was overfaced initially and put off.

Sustainability is key

The benefits of using Tassomai increase hugely over time, so using it regularly with a sustained effort reaps huge rewards. To that end, do what you can to keep it manageable and stay engaged yourself.

You will receive reports weekly that reflect recent efforts so you can monitor usage, but beyond that, you can get detailed analysis from the Tassomai Tree and by exploring your Tassomai Parent Dashboard.

Remember, we are here - we built Tassomai - to help parents and students achieve amazing academic results. So keep in touch with us, and we’ll be there for you.
