Lockdown learning webinars for parents of Tassomai students

We recently held our first ever webinar for parents, where our founder Murray Morrison showed homeschooling parents how to make the most of Tassomai during lockdown. We were really pleased to see so many parents turn up, the majority of them being parents whose children get Tassomai through their schools.

We’ve realised that there’s a real interest and demand from parents who want to know more about Tassomai and how it’s helping their children learn (84% didn’t know about the features available to them), so Murray is planning to run the parent webinar again for those who missed it.

We would encourage all schools using Tassomai to tell parents about these sessions, which will be held on:

Wednesday 10th February, from 12-1pm

Click this link to sign up for Wednesday’s webinar.

Thursday 11th February, from 4-5pm

Note the topics covered will be the same in both sessions so parents only need to sign up for one of them.

Parents were really interested in…

These were the 5 topics we had the most questions about in our first parents’ webinar:

1.The Tree

Parents and students have access to the Tree, an interactive visualisation of learning that evolves as a child’s knowledge grows.

If you’re a Tassomai teacher you’ll know the Understanding Grid; the Tree is a different way of showing the same information, aimed at individual learners and their parents.

2. How to get parent reports and log in to their parent accounts

Schools need to work with us to set up the weekly parent reports, so not all parents are getting them at the moment. For those parents that do get a parent report on Monday mornings, they include instructions for accessing parent accounts. For those parents that don’t get one, you need to either ask your child’s school to set up parent reports, or contact Edward in our admin team

3. Who is managing the work and whether parents need to do anything

Tassomai’s algorithm personalises the content for each learner, it identifies the areas they need to focus on and adjusts content accordingly. Teachers can turn on and off topics if they want, but this isn’t essential. Parents don’t need to change anything but they can use the Tree to see strengths and weaknesses and use this to help make a study plan.

4. Whether teachers see what their children are doing

Yes! Teachers have access to some really powerful data insight that’s generated through their students’ usage of Tassomai. It helps them see what topics a student understands and where they’re struggling. If you’re interested, this blog post explains more about the Teacher Dashboard.

5. Whether they could add additional subjects themselves or buy Tassomai for siblings

Lots of parents asked about this, and it can be a bit confusing for parents who have Tassomai accounts through a school. Tassomai is used for the core subjects of science, English and maths in schools, but not all schools choose to use it for all 3 subjects. If a parent wants to buy an additional subject* (as a private subscriber) they can do so, using the same parent account. They can also set up a private subscription for another learner (i.e. a sibling) through their parent account, taking advantage of the free 7-day trial for the new learner.

* We’d recommend asking your child’s school about adding on extra core subjects (maths, English, science) before setting up a private subscription as school packages allow access to all 3 subjects for one price.

Tell us what you’d like to hear more about...

If you’re a parent using Tassomai and you’d like to hear about something specific in our next webinar, please let us know by emailing admin@tassomai.com.

Note our webinars are aimed primarily at parents whose children use Tassomai (either through their school or through a private subscription), but they are open to anyone who wants to learn more about using Tassomai to help with homeschooling during lockdown.
