Product Designer

4.5 months parental leave cover, 16/09/19-05/02/20

Over the next three years, Tassomai is focussing heavily on extending and improving our product, as well as new product development. As a product designer you’d be solving problems for teachers, students, parents and schools all over the UK. You’ll also be implementing the design vision and practices of an exciting growth-focussed startup with a strong social mission.

What’s the challenge?

At Tassomai we have an ambitious vision for how the education system can be improved with edtech. As a product designer, you’d be responsible for realising that vision from research to production - that means having a head for strategy and a passion for understanding, communicating and solving complex problems.

You’ll be involved in implementing, understanding and communicating Tassomai’s product strategy as it changes and evolves with contact with users.

Some of the challenges we expect to be working on over the four months include:

  • Adapting Tassomai to be more effective for teaching and assessing maths and English

  • Gamifying our student quizzing app to drive engagement with education

  • Using data analysis and prediction tools which Headteachers and Data Managers trust and use to relieve exam stress and deliver better teaching to students

  • Offering innovative new tools to teachers which save them time and help them do more teaching and less box-ticking

Duties and Tasks

  • Be responsible for advocating the importance of UCD, UX + UX research, lean and agile methodologies throughout the design team and whenever interacting with those outside the design team

  • Work with product and engineering to implement the product design process

  • Produce high quality sketches, wireframes, prototypes and mockups at various degrees of fidelity, as necessary throughout a lean design process

  • Implement creative, usable, high quality interactions and experiences

  • Effectively implement the user testing and user research process

  • Work with product managers and teams to implement the end to end product delivery process, including interactions with engineering, QA, product and wider business

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education or teaching experience is a big plus; Tassomai is an education company.

  • Deep knowledge and experience of UX design

  • Strong UI and interaction design skills, including use of design systems

  • Strong experience of user research, user testing, and an interest in product discovery

  • Preferably experience working in product design at a SAAS company

  • A passion for learning about users and designing solutions which solve their needs

  • We use Figma, Miro, Principle, Sketch, Adobe Suite, so knowledge of some or all of those is good, but deep experience of these or alternatives is required

  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript is a plus
